"Texas Timber Frames advised me on how to gain price and construction efficiency in the design. From that meeting I knew they were a good fit." - Tom Suehs

For the first 10 years of operation, we built our timber frames using the traditional method of cutting joinery by hand using a hammer and chisel. Today, we combine hand-cut joinery with modern innovation to produce an exceptional product.

When Hans Hundegger invented the first K-1 Hundegger machine in Germany, Texas Timber Frames was one of the few companies in America to import one. We understood the significance of using the K-1 to cut mortise and tenon joinery with a tolerance of 1/32 of an inch. Increases in accuracy and production efficiencies were immediately realized, giving our timber craftsmen more time to finish and hand fit every wood joint.

In keeping with tradition, the day a house is raised is a special day for everybody. We can provide a crew to assemble your timbers on site, or provide a timber frame supervisor to assist and consult with your general contractor during the assembly process.

A crane is used to lift the heavy timbers into place. Once the timber frame is assembled we install structural insulated panels (SIP's) and cut the door and window openings. We will act as the point-man in transitioning the construction of the frame to your contractor to finish out. We are happy to supply all of the technical support unique to timber framing that your general contractor will need to complete the construction process.

Choosing to build a Texas Timber Frames home is a choice to build a structure that will last for generations. It is also a choice to support responsibly harvested timber, efficient construction methods, and energy conservation.

Surprisingly, Texas Timber Frames uses less total wood than a standard 2"x 4" stick-built home. There is also much less waste created during the construction process to either burn or haul to the local landfill.

The use of SIP's is a great alternative to common fiberglass or blown-in insulation, offering many benefits. You get structural, thermal, and reduced air infiltration advantages, as compared to any other conventional wall system. SIP’s are made by sandwiching expanded polystyrene between two layers of oriented strand board (OSB), which is both moisture resistant and structurally sound. The resulting panel is very strong, air tight and easy to install! We use SIP’s to form an unbroken barrier around the exterior walls and roof of your timber frame home, protecting you and your home from the elements. Because of these many advantages, we heartily recommend the use of structural insulated panels in every timber frame structure we build.
